for those who care about this sort of thing:
not long ago, a very nice copy of this show surfaced that purportedly derived
from Dick Latvala's cassettes made directly from the master soundboard reels.
This copy has cuts at the beginning of "Morning Dew" and in "Sunshine
Daydream",and is also missing "Casey Jones" and "One More Saturday
Night".
Very recently, a "new" copy has surfaced without the extraneous cassette
generation and, purportedly, is derived directly from the master soundboard
reels. This copy is currently beginning to circulate (10/00) via a "Tree" on
The Well, and also has the cuts at the beginning of "Morning Dew" and
"Sunshine Daydream", but, includes "Casey Jones" and "One More
Saturday
Night" which are missing from the previous version. The "new" copy, however,
introduces anomalies not present on the previous version. Specifically, there
are 2 drop-outs present during the banter which occurs between the aborted
"Playin' in the Band" and the actual "Playin' in the Band"(disc 2
track 5),
a minor digi-snit at approximately the 4:15 mark of "Morning Dew" (disc 2
track 6),as well as missing the first several seconds of "Ship of Fools"
(disc 3 track 1). Subsequently,the 2 drop-outs in the banter between the
"Playin' in the Band"'s and the digi-snit in "Morning Dew" were
patched in
from the MSR>Cassette>DAT version. That same MSR>C>D version also provided the
first 10 seconds of "Ship of Fools". The reel flips in "Morning Dew"
and
"Sunshine Daydream" were patched using an audience source. Please be aware
that the occassional static/crackle- an example of which occurs during the
banter between the end of the false start of "Playin' in the Band" and the
restart of "Playin'in the Band"- is present on both versions, so are presumed
to be on the master reels as well. Bottom line, I believe this to be the best
available copy of this show, compiled from 4 different sources, patched with
TLC, and made possible through the efforts of the usual group of
suspects/mental patients.

Master Soundboard Reel > Cassette > DAT > CDR
Audience source supplies patch in "Morning Dew" from 0:21 thru 0:43, as
well as the patch in "Sugar Magnolia" from 6:57 thru 7:22
The "meat" of the show is captured on Disc 2 and requires an 80 min disc
For the "80 minute" disc impaired, I'd suggest that you break the current
disc 2 in half, with the new 74 min disc 2 ending after "Let It Grow" and
the new 74 min disc 3 containing Playin'>UJB>Morning Dew>UJB>Playin'.

Notes: Previously Uncirculated :) I have purposely failed to include set designations.
DeadBase IX listed Set 2 as starting with China Cat. My ears, however, don't hear BIODTL
closing down set 1. The post-song tuning after BIODTL doesn't suggest to me the close of a
set (why tune up if you're leaving the stage?). Similarly, the tuning after Around and
Around doesn't suggest to me that this is the end of the second set (as listed in DB IX)
either . . .

Master Soundboard Reel > DAT supplies Playin' in the Band>Wharf Rat>Playin' in
the Band, as well as Eyes of the World
The audience source (a big thanks to Skankweed, btw) was also used for Weir's
"countdown" into Playin' in the Band, then the Soundboard kicks in at the 1st
note of Playin'. The reel to reel being turned off and back on in between songs has been
edited out for your listening pleasure. The beginning of Ship of Fools is cut on the
master.
